National Police Chiefs' Council Speed campaign

From the 20th January to the 2nd February, a National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) campaign will be running throughout Derbyshire. This is a tier 1 campaign looking at one of the Fatal Four causation factors of accidents, speeding.

During this two weeks, Roads Policing, Derbyshire Specials, Safer Neighbourhood Teams, CREST and for the first time, Community Speed Watch, will be providing a partnership approach to tackle speeding vehicles in Derbyshire. Each of us provide differing levels of engagement, education and enforcement with the aim of encouraging drivers to obey the speed limits and increase awareness of the dangers of speeding.

We will do this by focusing on locations that continue to create a collision and/or speeding issue and by targeting irresponsible and dangerous drivers committing speeding offences. This will be countywide and will be in the form of side of road, van or plain car, enforcement and engagement.

Chief Constable Anthony Bagham, the NPCC Lead for Roads Policing states “Speed limits are set to ensure a safe environment for everyone using the roads network. We can all play our part in making our roads safer by respecting speed limits”
